Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council asks for feedback on Cemetery Strategy

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council (LCCC) has launched a public consultation on a draft Cemetery Strategy for 2021-2032.

The draft Cemetery Strategy has been developed to consider the short, medium and longer term needs of cemetery provision for the Council area. 

The Strategy details all aspects of Cemetery management from administration, operational needs, future provision and the next phases which will require consideration to address future need for the Council area.

Chair of the Environmental Services Committee, Councillor Andrew Ewing said:  “LCCC is committed to delivering cemetery provision for all our citizens. The draft strategy has helped us align the administration and operational aspects of Cemetery provision, while also considering our needs for cemetery space within the area.

“As a public body, we appreciate the importance of consulting with the public. This includes our main service users, residents and non-residents of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, Funeral Directors and Monumental Sculptors to ensure we offer appropriate, dignified, peaceful and respectful resting places for loved ones.

“We recognise the diverse community in Lisburn and Castlereagh. We are keen to ensure that everyone, regardless of religion, political opinion, race, sexual orientation, faith and gender, has equal access to cemetery provision when required.

“Our equality screening of the strategy did not identify any significant issues for any equality group but we would welcome your feedback on the proposed strategy and screening.”
