LCCC encourage Lisburn Castlereagh businesses to enter the Queen’s Award for Enterprise

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is encouraging eligible local businesses to apply for the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.
The Awards are for outstanding achievement in the categories of innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility.
Mr David McCorkell, Lord Lieutenant of County Antrim said: “The Queen’s Award for enterprise is regarded as the most prestigious awards for UK businesses, as it recognises and rewards outstanding achievements in the fields of Innovation, International Trade, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility).
“Global recognition, increased turnover, growth in international trade and boosted staff morale are just some of the benefits companies have cited as benefits of winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
“The winners are invited to a Royal reception and presented with the award by the appropriate Lord Lieutenant, which I hope to do for a local business when the winners are announced.”
Alderman Amanda Grehan, Chair of LCCC’s Development Committee commented: “In this Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, we’d like to encourage local businesses to showcase the best of Lisburn Castlereagh through the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.
“We have had two recent winners from Lisburn in Kelvatek and Unicorn Group which helped them continue to expand and be recognised as a leader in their respective fields.
“We have many forward thinking and internationally renowned businesses who fly the flag for Lisburn Castlereagh and would encourage them to enter.”
Kelvatek were awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2018 for the development of a smart fuse called Bidoyng. Managing Director Gordon Brown said: “The product detects blown electricity fuses and automatically switches supplies to a backup fuse, without the need to wait for an engineer to travel to site, thereby reconnecting customers’ supplies within seconds.
“Since winning the award, it has been successfully adopted by every Distribution Network Operator across the UK. The Award added creditability across our entire product offering and highlights the level of talent and innovation here in Northern Ireland. As an organisation we invest heavily in R&D, which enables us to continually develop innovative solutions for the UK & Irish Energy industry.”
