Letters Patent available for the Lisburn Castlereagh community to view

May 10, 2022

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is delighted to announce that the Letters Patent granted by Her Majesty The Queen is available for its community to view for free in Hillsborough Castle & Gardens this week.

The Letters Patent were presented on 20th October 2021 by the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Brandon Lewis MP and are now on loan to Historic Royal Palaces for permanent display in the village of Royal Hillsborough.

Speaking about the upcoming opportunities, the Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Alderman Stephen Martin, said: “It was an honour to receive the Letters Patent on behalf of the people of Royal Hillsborough last year.  To ensure our whole community has the opportunity to view the Letters Patent we have worked with Historic Royal Palaces to identify viewing times.

“Between 1.30pm and 4.30pm on the 9th and 10th May you can view the Letters Patent free of charge. Members of our museum team will also be on hand to talk about how royal status enhances the history of the village.  Each visitor will also receive a postcard replica of the Royal Hillsborough Letters Patent.”

The viewing of the Letters Patent does not include a full tour of Hillsborough Castle & Gardens.
