Proposed New Community Facility for Lisburn North

November 4, 2015

Plans to build a new community centre in North Lisburn have taken a step forward after planning permission was granted to Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council to develop an exciting new facility at the proposed site at Rathvarna Drive.

The plans for the centre were supported by the Stakeholder and Steering Committee and will see the creation of a much needed facility in the heart of the local community.  The project, which represents a significant investment made by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, will commence construction work early next year.

Welcoming the news on the planning application for the facility, Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee said, “I would like to thank Paul Givan MLA, community representatives and the statutory agencies on the steering group who have played a pivotal role in the progression of this new facility.

“The Council, in partnership with the steering group, have been actively working towards the development of this facility for a number of years, and I am delighted that planning permission has now been granted to allow us to move forward with the project.

“There is a great need for a community facility in the area, therefore the Council is pleased to fund the project and ensure the venue will meet the needs of local people and future generations to come.

“As Chairman of the Stakeholder and Steering Committee, I look forward to seeing the construction work for the new centre commencing early next year.”
