Moira Wins ‘Best Kept Small Town’

November 3, 2015

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is celebrating its success at the 2015 Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC) awards, which saw Moira win top spot in the ‘Best Kept Small Town’ category.

Moira, situated on the periphery of Lisburn, was awarded ‘Best Kept Small Town’ for its sustained cleanliness, meticulously planted floral arrangements and eye catching displays, and acknowledges the outstanding commitment demonstrated by the community and efforts to encourage recycling within the area.

Speaking about the Award, Councillor Brian Hanvey, Chairman of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, said, “I am delighted that Moira has been awarded first place in the ‘Best Kept Small Town’ category at this year’s Northern Ireland Amenity Council awards.

“The Council works tirelessly to ensure that our towns and villages look their best all year round and this award signifies just that; and to receive yet another award on the back of the success at the 2015 Translink Ulster in Bloom Competition, in which Hillsborough won the ‘Large Village’ category, is just fantastic.

“This award is a tremendous achievement and a fitting tribute to the hard work of Council staff and the endless commitment of the local community, who work diligently to ensure that Moira is kept litter free, clean and colourful. I would like to commend all those involved,” concluded Councillor Hanvey.

The Best Kept Awards, organised annually by the Northern Ireland Amenity Council (NIAC) and sponsored by Open + Direct Insurance, recognises communities that ‘go the extra mile’ in creating well maintained, clean and beautiful areas in which to live and work.
