NI Centenary benches located across Lisburn & Castlereagh
November 15, 2021
New park benches to mark the Northern Ireland Centenary have been placed in parks and open spaces across Lisburn & Castlereagh.
Their unique design is based on the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council NI Centenary Logo. It includes a QR Code which links to the LCCC NI Centenary section of the website where you can find out more about the Centenary Programme.
Alderman Stephen Martin, Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council said: “After planting our NI Centenary trees, the benches are a natural addition to further enhance our parks for everyone to enjoy.
“The benches were designed in house by our talented designers and parks staff as part of our year-long NI Centenary Programme.”
Councillor Scott Carson, Chair of the NI Centenary Working Group, added: “As we near the end of the NI Centenary year, I have been reflecting back on all that we have achieved as part of of our NI Centenary Programme.
“With grant aid schemes, tree planting, historic lectures, community programmes and gifts for the youngest and oldest among us there truly has been something for everyone.
“And we’re not quite finished yet. Look out for a new piece of art which will be a permanent display at Lagan Valley Island developed with local young people.
“The Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum has one online NI Centenary talk left, and has opened their latest exhibition, ‘100 years, 100 images’ which you can go see anytime.
“I am also looking forward to our special Centenary citizenship ceremony at Royal Hillsborough Castle later this month.”
