New Pedestrian Crossing Commended

July 9, 2018

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee has commended Lagan Valley LeisurePlex for their approach to child safety, following the introduction of a new pedestrian crossing outside the popular facility.

The new crossing was introduced after consultation with local residents to help ensure the continued safety of the 800,000 visitors who travel to the Lisburn facility each year.

Alderman Porter said, “On behalf of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, I am delighted to see the introduction of a pedestrian crossing at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex. The safety of all customers within and surrounding our facilities is of paramount importance, particularly with the significant number of families and schools who enjoy using the LeisurePlex each week.

“I would like to thank local resident, Andy Thompson for raising the suggestion with the Council as well as Councillor Rhoda Walker for working alongside the Leisure & Community Development Committee to see the idea for the crossing come into fruition.

“Finally, I would like to encourage all our customers to make use of the crossing during their visit to ensure a safe and enjoyable day out for everyone.”

Local resident, Andy Thompson added, “It was a pleasure to approach the Council about the pedestrian crossing at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex.  As a regular customer, I am thrilled that the Council have valued my suggestion and witness the crossing being used regularly by so many customers today.”
