Mayor's Carnival Parade & Family Fun Day on Saturday 20th May

Mayor’s Carnival Parade leaves ISLAND Arts Centre at 1pm. The family fund day at Wallace Park kicks off at 12.30pm approximately.
A pulsating parade of over 500 local and international carnival performers, dancers, drummers, live musical rhythms and pumping sound systems will engage, educate and entertain young and old alike.
Soaring sculptures, fantastical floats and giant carnival creations depicting carnival’s eco-friendly credentials will be fashioned from upcycled waste and the incredulous imaginations of professional artists, school children and community groups.

Besides being one of the most, lively events of the year, Mayor’s Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day also serves a worthy cause as funds raised from this year’s event will go to the Mayoral Charity, Tiny Life, Northern Ireland's premature and vulnerable baby charity.
Ecotastic Family Fun Day
Carnival Village, Wallace Park 12.30 - 5.30pm
Carrying on Carnival’s ‘Ecotastic’ theme is the ever popular Family
Fun Day, in the lush, leafy surroundings of the beautiful Wallace Park.
Attractions will feature a rich assortment of live entertainment and arena acts, for people of all ages to enjoy along with the opportunity to refuel with a range of foods on offer.
Skilled artisans and artists producing all manner of high quality goods will showcase their homemade craft. While in celebration of this year’s ‘Ecotastic’ environmentally friendly theme, there will be demonstrations from the Wildlife Trust, C&J's Farm Petting Zoo, Ian Patterson Flying Falcons, the Bee Keeping Association, RSPB, Mantilla Environmental Education, Conservation Volunteers, Lagan Valley Regional Park and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Waste Management.
Key performance highlights include C21 Theatre Company’s an interactive Drama Performance of the African tale 'The Awongalema Tree' and music by Broken String Band and Los Dramaticos.
High energy activities include a “come and try” miniature BMX track, boxing demonstration matches organised by the Canal Boxing Club, make your own smoothie on a battery operated spin bike, climbing wall and fairground attractions.
Little ones will be the centre of attention with special theatre performances and a dedicated Kids’ Zone with a host of Make & Take arts and craft workshops.
While putting pooches firmly in the spotlight will be the ever popular Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Dog Show.

Good to Know
Event organisers encourage Carnival revellers to use public transport where possible or the city’s many car parking facilities. Visitors are asked to extend all reasonable courtesy to local residents and to note parking is unavailable at ISLAND Civic Centre on Saturday 20 May and parking restrictions will be in place in areas surrounding Wallace Park.

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is looking forward to welcoming revellers to Mayor’s Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day on Saturday 20 May 2017.
Carnival Route
Mayor’s Carnival Parade sets off from ISLAND Arts Centre at 1pm and sweeps its way through Lisburn City Centre via Queen’s Road, Linenhall Street, Market Street, Market Place, Railway Street, Magheralave Road, Wallace Park, Belfast Road and Seymour Street before returning to ISLAND Civic Centre via Queen’s Road. There will be plenty of opportunity for onlookers to capture the carnival magic as it passes through the streets and Wallace Park. Just be sure to select your viewing point early and allow extra time for some traffic disruption.
Family Fun Day, Wallace Park
Entry to the Carnival Village at Wallace Park is via the Belfast Road & Magheralave Road entrances.
As this is an outdoor event, please dress according to weather conditions on the day. Please note young people aged 13 years and under must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council reserves the right to cancel any event, due to extreme weather conditions or force majeure.
For safety reasons, Wallace Park will be closed to public access on Friday 19 May 2017 from 10am until 2pm and from 7am until gates open to the Mayor’s Carnival Parade & Family Fun Day at 12.30pm on Saturday 20 May 2017. Travel Advice
Mayor’s Carnival Parade & Family Fun Day is a popular event and attracts large crowds. For your convenience, the Council encourages everybody attending the event to use public transport where possible.
If you are planning to drive, please use city car parking facilities (details of car parks can be found here) and extend all reasonable courtesy to local residents especially in the residential areas surrounding Wallace Park. Parking is unavailable at ISLAND Civic Centre on Saturday 20 May and parking restrictions will be in place in areas surrounding Wallace Park.
