Mayor Carson welcomes special guests for Christmas Lights Switch On
November 17, 2022
Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Cllr Scott Carson, was joined by Santa Claus and some very special guests for the Christmas lights’ switch-on 2022.
There was spectacular entertainment from Lisburn Rock Choir led by Clare Galway and singer James Huish who were belting out the Christmas classics along with magical stage performances from Beechlawn School Makaton Choir and Tiny Nelson Productions supported by the ISLAND Youth Theatre.
DJ Glen Pavis brought the party mood to the City Centre with festive tunes while street performers entertained those who came to enjoy the celebrations.
Addressing the excited crowd Mayor Carson said: “I am delighted to see so many of you here this evening and I feel like Christmas has finally arrived.
“I want to thank Santa Claus for taking time out of his busy schedule to help me out. This is our first, proper switch on in three years and it’s a special moment to be here together to get Christmas off to a great start.
“Over the next few weeks, there are lots of free family events and activities taking place in local communities’ right across the council area. I hope you will get involved as there is something for everyone.
“We also have Christmas at the Castle starting on 23 November. Make sure you get your tickets so you don’t miss out on what will be a fabulous event which also supports my Mayoral charities, the Atlas Centre and Helping Hand at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Every donation makes a huge difference.
“The lighting of the tree tonight also marks the beginning of our fabulous Light Festival. I encourage everyone to go see the reindeer in Dundonald, the Arctic Fox in Carryduff and the many attractions and light shows here in Lisburn.
“Thank you everyone for coming out tonight, I hope you have a wonderful time and a very happy and peaceful Christmas.”
Alderman Allan Ewart MBE, Development Committee Chair added: “Lisburn City Centre was full of Christmas cheer tonight.
“The light festival is now in its fifth year and continues to be enjoyed by thousands of people during the festive period. The lights are amazing as always.
“As part of the festival the City will also be bustling with visits from your favourite super heroes, princesses, dinosaurs and other characters and the miniature train will be back.
“Whilst enjoying the Light Festival, please do visit our many retailers to get those special Christmas presents for your loved ones. Local businesses really value your support at this time of year. I wish you all a Merry Christmas.”
