Council Celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week with Primary School Pupils

November 16, 2022

To launch this year's Global Entrepreneurship Week, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council (LCCC) partnered with Young Enterprise Northern Ireland to deliver a business master class programme to primary schools within the council area.

The programme, which rolled out in six schools across the area, saw P6 students participate in a fun packed Business Masterclass learning about the world of enterprise and developing their own ideas for business concepts. Business Ambassador, John McCollum, Franchise owner from JMC restaurants, was also on-hand to give the students an insight into his own experiences and thoughts for the future.

Through this programme, the council aims to harness young people’s entrepreneurial drive as well as equip them with specific skills that are increasingly sought after by employers. Speaking at the event, Alderman Allan Ewart MBE, Chairman of Development Committee said: “We want to inspire the next generation of business owners across our council area by introducing them to the concept of entrepreneurship at an early age. This fantastic initiative by Young Enterprise will allow young people the opportunity to develop their understanding of the world of business, and time to build up the necessary skills required to become business leaders of the future. ”

Carol Fitzsimons MBE, Young Enterprise NI Chief Executive, said: “We are so pleased to work in partnership with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Economic Development Team. The world of work will dramatically change by the time our children finish education.  They need to be prepared to adapt and thrive in any future world.  This is where skills such as confidence, resilience and creativity are vital.”

Schools involved included St Itas Primary School, Maghaberry Primary School, St Joseph's Primary School Lisburn, Dromara PS, McKinney Primary School and Tonagh Primary School.
