Mayor attends Chinese Summer Party

Councillor Thomas Beckett, Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, was delighted to recently attend the annual Shaolin Hung Fut Kung Fu Club Summer Party, organised by Martial Arts Instructor, Mr Derek Lui at Seymour Street Methodist Hall in Lisburn.

As well as meeting participants, the Mayor was honoured to present prizes to Martial Arts students and was treated to a special Martial Arts performance.

The Mayor said: “The standard of Martial Arts is incredibly high and I was really impressed with the performance and the agility of those who put on such a splendid display.  The Summer Party is a really good way of celebrating the success of the Club and it was very well attended.

“A traditional Lion was on show and there was a wonderful atmosphere at the event.  Mr Lui and his team are to be congratulated for all of the effort involved, as are the Club’s students.  The people who showcased the Lion dance performance, namely Nelson Lui and Stuart Archer did a fantastic job.

I was also very pleased to meet Mei Kuen Lui, Mr Lui’s wife and would like to take the opportunity to wish all participants in the club every success,” concluded the Mayor.
