Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin outlined the importance of showing leadership and embracing everyone in society as the recovery journey continues: “The theme for my year as Mayor is ‘joining the dots’. I want to ensure that everybody in our society has a voice and that they are empowered to use it.
“In recent weeks I have welcomed many groups to the council offices and am delighted that we have included Health and Wellbeing as an underpinning theme in our interim corporate plan.
“This highlights our commitment to inclusivity and providing essential support to help the people of Lisburn & Castlereagh recover, grow and develop as we hopefully begin to emerge from the worst effects of this pandemic.
“Our plans for the future are ambitious, they are exciting and they are achievable. We will continue to show leadership and provide the support that our businesses and communities need. I look forward to working with local communities in the year ahead.”
Chief Executive David Burns added: “The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live and work. There is no going back and as a Council we are now looking forward. We have successfully adapted how we deliver many services, embraced digital solutions and kept our focus on value for money in all that we do.
"Now is a time for leadership, innovative thinking and a renewed commitment to ambitious plans that will positively impact the lives of local people.
"This plan sets out how we will boost our economy, creating jobs, apprenticeships and other learning opportunities.
“We will continue to invest in communities through our local development plan with new play parks, green spaces and affordable housing. And we will continue to deliver essential services across Lisburn and Castlereagh with a focus on customer experience and continuous improvement.
“I look to the future with optimism and enthusiasm. The partnerships between Council and Communities are stronger than ever and we can get through this together.”
