Local Apprentices join the team at Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council

Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council has welcomed six new apprentices as part of the Council’s new Careers Pathway Programme.
LCCC is the first Council in Northern Ireland to deliver this scheme offering apprenticeships across a range of services including Parks and Amenities, HR, Vehicle Maintenance, Marketing and IT.
The apprentices are paid, there is no age limit, and it is supported by Belfast Met, South Eastern Regional College and CAFRE who deliver courses alongside the placements over a two or three year period.
Human Resources apprentice, Taylor Hill said: “I saw this opportunity advertised when I was looking for a career change. Previously I had worked in Food Manufacturing and I wanted to do something a little bit different. This programme really appealed to me with the opportunity for learning and starting from the beginning.”
Mayor Alderman Stephen Martin, Chief Executive David Burns and Vice Chair of Corporate Services Alderman Michael Henderson welcomed the apprentices on their first day.
Speaking at the Induction, Chief Executive David Burns said: “Local government is a great place to work and learn on the job. Here are LCCC, no two days are the same and the opportunities for personal and professional development are endless.
“The work we do is so important and people rely on us every day to deliver essential services. I am excited to see the positive impact our new apprentices can have and I am delighted to support them on their educational journey.”
Mayor Martin added: “This apprentice scheme is designed to support people from all walks of life regardless of age. It is important that we continue to learn, grow and develop throughout our lives. Through scheme we are delighted to be joined by young students just starting their careers as well as those who have experience of the world of work and who want a change.
"After just one meeting, I can already feel the energy and I look forward to working with our apprentices in the year ahead.”
Alderman Henderson concluded: “All elected members have been fully behind this programme and are delighted to see it get underway.
“I welcome our new apprentices and have no doubt that they will make a real difference. I hope they enjoy their time with us serving our local community throughout Lisburn and Castlereagh.”
