Deputy Mayor meets Five Generations of local family as they receive Centenary Coin & Bear
October 27, 2021
Deputy Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Tim Mitchell, welcomed five generations of the Jess family to Lagan Valley Island as part of the Northern Ireland Centenary programme.
102 year old Elizabeth Jess received a Centenary Coin earlier in the year but she wasn’t the only member of the family to be involved in the NI Centenary programme of events.
Elizabeth’s Great Great Granddaughter Isla received a Centenary Bear after the registration of her birth at Lagan Valley Island. All five generations of the family were invited to The Mayor’s Parlour to mark this milestone.
During 2021, LCCC has marked the NI Centenary with numerous events including handing out ten Centenary Coins to those in our local community who are 100 years old or older.
Also, for our newest additions, over 300 Centenary Bears were given as special gifts from May to August to those who registered the birth of a child at Lagan Valley Island.
