'Diversity University' Will Score Marks For Good Relations Week

The council is proud to host its first ever ‘Diversity University – let’s get quizzical’ event on Wednesday 18th September at 6:00pm in Lagan Valley Island, hosted by Tim McGarry as part of its Good Relations Programme.

Entry is free; and community groups, residents and keen quiz goers are all invited to register a team for ‘Diversity University’. Refreshments will be provided at the start of the evening.

This event is just one of the activities Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has arranged during the 2019 ‘People Making Change for Peace’ Good Relations Week, which runs from Monday 16th September - Sunday 22nd September.

Alderman James Tinsley, Chairman of the council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, said: “The council is delighted to be try something new to mark the high profile Good Relations Week initiative.  Within Northern Ireland we must be united to build communities together that are for everyone.  This dedicated week is the ideal opportunity for Lisburn Castlereagh to celebrate all aspects of our culture and heritage, promote cultural diversity and tackle local issues.  

“At ‘Diversity University’ you will test your knowledge on a variety of subjects including good relations.  Through this event local residents can network, increase their understanding of all local communities and play their part in building a united and shared Lisburn Castlereagh society. We look forward to seeing a packed Island Hall and I have no doubt Tim McGarry will add his own humour to the evening.”

The Community Relations Council sets the theme for Good Relations Week, and coordinates it with support from The Executive Office, the Department for Communities, the Department of Justice and other government agencies.
