Council installs defibrillator at Bells Lane Allotments
September 25, 2020
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has funded and installed a new defibrillator at Bells Lane Allotments in Derriaghy. The lifesaving equipment was fitted just before lockdown and is now accessible to all allotment holders, visitors and local residents.
Today, a group of allotment holders attended a training session at the hub to learn how to operate a defibrillator and how to perform effective CPR if someone has a cardiac arrest.
Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee, said:
“We are pleased to be working in partnership with Avonmore Training Solutions to deliver training to local Lisburn Castlereagh residents. This training is crucial and will ensure users of the Bells Lane Allotments are fully trained in operating a defibrillator, in case the need should ever arise.
“As a council, we recognise the role we play in supporting local communities to be safe and healthy places to live. Having access to a nearby defibrillator can greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to administer life-saving support.
“By installing this recent defibrillator at Bells Lane Allotments, means that we know that if someone suffers a cardiac arrest, there’s a chance for their life to be saved.”
The allotment hub has recently undergone a £290,000 refurbishment and features a newly developed meeting space including a covered area with benches, toilet facilities, raised planting beds, additional parking bays, a garden shed and poly tunnel.
