Be part of our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Great Artdoors Festival

June 11, 2022

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is delighted to see the return of its Great Artdoors Festival to allow families to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. There will be theatre, arts and musical events taking place in Castle Gardens, Lisburn on Saturday 18th June and Moat Park, Dundonald on Sunday 19th June.

Each day and at each location there will be show of The Queen’s Treasure: The Maverick Mermaid and Me on 2.00pm- 4.00pm before the Swingtime Starlets deliver their show at 6.00pm. Tickets cost £1.00 per person for each event.

Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Scott Carson, speaking about these events said: “It is fantastic that the council has provided opportunities for all ages of residents to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  I am looking forward to attending some of these events and finding out how Salty the Sea Dog retrieves the Royal Queen Mermaid of the Sea's lost treasure.

“Alongside the cheers of ‘Ahoy me hearties!’ I would like to say in advance ‘Thank you me hearties’ to all those who attend these events.  All monies from the tickets sales will be donated to my two worthy mayoral charities: Helping Hand and the Atlas Centre.”

Helping Hand is a charity that raises funds for the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children (RBHSC). The Atlas Centre, based in Lisburn, provides a wide range of support for women, men and families.

Councillor Aaron McIntyre, Leisure & Community Development Chairman added: “Our Great Artdoors Festival won an award during the pandemic and I have no doubt these Queen’s Platinum Jubilee events will be successful. I wonder how the Royal Queen Mermaid of the Sea's treasure compares to The Queen’s Crown Jewels. I would like to thank our Arts Service and their artists for the planned programme. There really is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Councillor Hazel Legge, Chair of the council’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Working Group commented: “It is important to the council that our community has the opportunity to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 year reign. In recent weeks local community and voluntary groups have been hosting events in their communities with grant support from the council.  These two outdoor events offer opportunities for families and friends to come together. They bring families together to enjoy playful theatre for young people and their grown-ups during the day and for friends to enjoy a musical trip down memory lane with the Swingtime Starlet trio in the evening.”
