Will you wake early to watch local Olympian Boxer Kurt Walker?

The TV Screen in Market Square, Lisburn is showing the Olympic Games throughout the day.  When in the city centre grab a coffee and go to the Alfresco space and enjoy the ambience where you won`t miss any of your favourite Olympic events.

Local Olympian Kurt Walker, Elite Boxer from Canal Boxing Academy is through to his second contest having beaten Spanish Boxer J.Quiles Brotons on Saturday 24th July. He now faces Uzbek No 1 seed Mirazizbek Mitzakhaililov Wednesday 28th July at 4.36am.

Sending him luck and best wishes today from the Market Square alfresco space where the TV Screen is showing the Olympic Games are representatives of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, his club coaches and family and fellow boxer Chloe Fleck.

Alderman Amanda Grehan, Development Committee Chair, said:  “It is very exciting to have an Olympian from Lisburn competing in Japan. It is fantastic that the world can see Kurt’s hard work and dedication to his sport as he lives his Olympic dream.  I am sure all our residents are supporting him and want to see him bring an Olympic medal home.”


The Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin, echoed Amanda`s words and wished Kurt every success for his next contest. He added “Lisburn is very proud of Kurt for qualifying for the Olympics. It is a great achievement, and I will be up at 4.36am tomorrow morning watching his performance! Canal Boxing Academy in addition to training Kurt Walker is also training Chloe Fleck for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.”
