Mayor Stephen Martin introduces MACS as second Mayoral Charity

Mayor Stephen Martin has introduced MACS as the second Mayoral Charity for his coming year as Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

MACS provide a range of support services for children and young people aged 6-25 years who haven’t had a fair deal in life.

Mayor Martin is excited to work with MACS in the next 12 months, he said: “MACS have a service situated here in Longstone Street in Lisburn but operate right across the Greater Belfast area supporting children and young people who perhaps haven’t had a fair start in life.

“It’s something that’s not necessarily always out there but it’s always ongoing and I think it is something as a community we should be getting full square behind and supporting them in what they do.”

Sarah Morrow, who is the Lisburn Integrated Manager for MACS, shared more about their work, saying, “Our young people haven’t had a fair deal in life. So they have maybe been in the care system, have experienced homelessness or suffered with mental health issues and we have a range of services to support them.

“At Longstone Street in Lisburn, we have supported accommodation where young people can come and live for up to two years whilst learning basic living skills.

“They also learn what it is like to be part of a community and be part of a family and we class ourselves as a family here at MACS.”
