Translink welcomes Mayor to Lisburn Bus and Train Stations

August 27, 2021

Translink has welcomed the Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh, Alderman Stephen Martin, on a visit to Lisburn Bus Station and Lisburn Train Station today (Thursday 26th August) to meet and thank local bus and rail staff for their work in keeping the City moving during the eighteen months and learn more about Translink’s plans for the area.

The Mayor met local Ulsterbus and NI Railways staff and discussed the challenges faced in keeping essential public transport services operating during the COVID-19 pandemic and the various lockdowns, as well as thanking them for maintaining services for other essential workers and maintaining connections between communities.

Alderman Stephen Martin, Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, said: “‘The Translink team kept Northern Ireland moving throughout the pandemic and we as a community owe all the staff here a great debt of gratitude.  I was really pleased to spend time with some of the local bus & train teams and to thank them for going the extra mile particularly for those in health & social care. I would like to remind those who use public transport to continue to wear a face covering unless exempt.”

Martin Lundy, Service Delivery Manager, Translink said: ‘‘Bus and rail colleagues in Lisburn were delighted to welcome the Mayor to the city’s stations today to meet our frontline staff and discuss the challenges faced by public transport over the last year and a half.  Translink services continued to operate throughout the pandemic and as we recover, there is a genuine opportunity to make a meaningful shift towards public and other sustainable modes of transport, helping to combat the climate emergency, reduce air pollution and congestion and deliver economic, environmental and social benefits for everyone in our community.  People can be assured that they can travel safely by bus or rail, and a shift towards sustainable travel will deliver Northern Ireland a sustainable, ‘green’ recovery from this difficult period.

‘‘Translink is proud of everything that our staff have achieved over this challenging period in keeping the network running and being there for our fellow key workers, as well as being active in the community, and we’re glad to have been able to welcome the Mayor to ensure that the Translink SPIRIT is recognised.’’
