Through the Shared Lens: Community Networking Event

September 23, 2015

As part of Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is hosting a special networking event and photography exhibition for local community and voluntary groups on Monday 28th September at 7pm at Lagan Valley Island, Lisburn.

The event entitled ‘Through the Shared Lens’ will unveil a photography exhibition which has been organised by community and voluntary groups across the Lisburn & Castlereagh area.  Over the last few months, groups have been working with a professional photographer to showcase the extensive number of shared spaces throughout the Council area and capture their thoughts and feelings on the area where they live. The photographs will then be displayed in the Island Arts Centre, Community Arts Walkway for the month of October.

Councillor Aaron McIntyre, Vice Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee said, “Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week is an opportunity to celebrate all aspects of culture and heritage. It aims to inspire new ideas and approaches, breakdown barriers and increase understanding and engagement between and amongst all sections of the community.

“The ‘Through the Shared Lens’ event will provide a platform for organisations and groups from the community and voluntary sector to showcase innovative approaches to good relations through the medium of photography.  The event will provide a great networking forum for groups to share ideas amongst other community representatives across the Lisburn and Castlereagh area.  Groups will also have the opportunity to enjoy a special performance from the Open Arts Community Choir as well as listen to guest speaker Dr Simon Murphy from Groundwork NI.

“The event promises to be a valuable experience for community and voluntary groups and I would warmly encourage representatives to come along and celebrate the first Community Relations and Cultural Awareness Week organised by the new Council.”
