The gift that keeps on going!
December 11, 2015
In the run-up to Christmas, Councillor Thomas Beckett, Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council and Alderman Allan Ewart, Development Committee Chairman, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, joined Jim McAuley, Translink’s Service Delivery Manager for the Lisburn District, at the Lisburn Bus Centre to call on the public to support local Lisburn small businesses and public transport this Christmas.
Just in time for Christmas, Translink has announced special fares for the Lisburn area. Lynda Shannon, Communications Manager for Translink, explains: “We are delighted to bring in our new £2 Ulsterbus day return fare to entice local shoppers into their local towns and cities across NI helping to boost the local economy at this important time of the year. The special fare will continue through March 2016.
“We also know many people like to get out and about with family and friends at this time of the year too whether it is to buy presents, see Santa or attend a social occasion, so we want to remind people of the everyday offers available like our 1/3 off day return tickets on NI Railways.
“We have many more offers for public transport this season, so we encourage everyone to check out our website or talk to a Translink representative for more information. We hope these special services help our passengers have a very Merry Christmas this year.”
The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett, said: “We appreciate Translink for setting up additional services this season at an affordable cost for everyone. We encourage everyone to take public transport this Christmas and enjoy some shopping in Lisburn. There are a variety of bus routes into the city centre from outlying rural areas and I am sure these residents will appreciate this low fare.”
Alderman Allan Ewart added: “We applaud any effort that makes it easier for people to travel to and from Lisburn and support our local economy. The City has so much to offer and I am sure shoppers will find those special gifts they’re looking for this year. There are also some lovey eateries in and around the City Centre at which shoppers can enjoy a relaxing break between shops if they need a rest and some refreshment.”
