Spooky Halloween Bowling at the Ice Bowl
November 1, 2016
Adults from disability and special needs organisations across Northern Ireland enjoyed a frightfully good day out when they competed in a spooktacular tenpin bowling competition held recently at Dundonald International Ice Bowl.
Over 180 enthusiastic adults dressed up as witches, wizards, ghouls and goblins to take part in the Halloween themed competition with special fancy dress prizes, haunting music and spooky Xtreme bowing lights.
The fun competition was enthusiastically played with Ravara Training Resource Centre winning 1st place in the team award, while Beech Hall Day Centre scooped the 2nd place prize and Edgcumbe Training & Resource Centre taking 3rd place. Top male bowler was won by Orchardville Training & Resource Centre and the top female bowler was won by Ravara Training & Resource Centre. The toughest category to call was the best costume prize, which was awarded to Woodland Day Centre, Action Mental Health, Orchardville Training & Resource Centre and Mount Oriel.
The Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, Councillor Tim Morrow was delighted to support the event. He said, “This is the 25th year that Dundonald International Ice Bowl has hosted the competition and this year the facility has attracted a record number of participants which is testimony to the success of the event. Many of these groups regularly bowl at the facility during the year so it is a fantastic forum to bring organisations together for a fun, social activity, which everyone can enjoy regardless of their disability.
“I would like to thank the staff from the various organisations for supporting the competition as I know lots of preparation is involved in making all the creative costumes which I have seen today and ensuring each participant is excited in the build up to the event. I would also like to thank Hunky Dory’s for providing snacks for the competition and look forward to welcoming all the organisations back to the facility very soon.”
