Sir Richard Wallace Souvenir Newspaper Launched
September 6, 2018
The first visit of Sir Richard Wallace (1818-90) to Lisburn in 1873 is marked in a new souvenir edition of Lisburn Yarns published by the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum. The limited edition free newspaper can be picked up in the museum, open Monday to Saturday 9.30-5pm, as part of its hugely popular Sir Richard Wallace Exhibition, or online.
Chair of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee, Alderman Paul Porter, officially launched the newspaper in the Council’s museum.
Alderman Porter said: “as a world-famous benefactor and art collector there was great excitement in Lisburn at news of Sir Richard Wallace’s first visit in 1873. Thousands turned out on the streets to greet the new landlord. Sir Richard Wallace has left a rich legacy in Lisburn and the surrounding area, and in publishing this souvenir newspaper we want to mark the importance of his first visit to the town.”
