Santa's Grotto at the ILCLM to raise money for charity
December 6, 2021
Santa Claus has a taken up residence in his Grotto at the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum until 23rd December. He is helping raise money for the Mayoral Charities, ADD-NI and MACS Lisburn.
Both Santa and Mayor Martin welcome a minimum donation of £1 per child to these two worthwhile local charities.
Our Santa’s Grotto is open to the public from Monday to Friday 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm (drop in sessions) and Saturday 10.00am to 4.00pm (ticketed sessions). To help manage weekend numbers you must contact the museum to book tickets.
All children visiting Santa and his elves will receive a complimentary gift, courtesy of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.
Until 16th December there will be a special mailbox outside Santa’s Grotto for children to post their letters to Santa. These will be sent to his workshop in Lapland daily, so his elves can prepare presents.
Councillor Sharon Skillen, Chair of the council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, speaking about Santa’s visit to the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum said: “Christmas is without doubt the most popular time of year for children as they start to write their letters to Santa once the Christmas lights are switched on, if not before! The council is delighted to host an in person Santa’s Grotto to give children the opportunity to chat with him about their plans for Christmas. I would ask those who visit our museum to follow the guidance in place to protect everyone and thank them in advance for their charitable donations.”
If your little ones might be worried about their Santa letter getting caught in any post delays as Christmas approaches don’t worry. We have teamed up with the Elves at the North Pole who handle all correspondence to Santa Claus and are delighted to be able to help! Anyone can send their Santa letter using our elf-approved email address: santa@lisburnmuseum.com
The Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin added: “It is great news that Santa can once again visit us in Lisburn and welcome everyone in person safely. Parents and carers can take their own photographs at the Grotto. Christmas is a time for kindness, celebration and generosity; and I hope everyone visiting Santa donates to my Mayoral Charities to mark the occasion. All contributions will go towards the delivery of critical support to those with ADHD and disadvantaged young people in need.”
Schools and other group bookings (in social bubbles) are welcome. To avoid delays in seeing Santa, please ring the Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum on Tel: 028 9266 3377 or email: ilc.reception@lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk in advance.
