Recycle Week: This is the year we ‘Recycle Right’

September 21, 2018

The Council will be promoting Recycle Week from 24th-30th September and the necessity of recycling with its ‘Recycle Right’ brand to raise awareness of good recycling habits at home.

Councillor Janet Gray MBE, Chair of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, said: “Over the summer the Council communicated with residents the importance of placing all their recyclable products in the correct recycling bin or box.  We would like to thank our residents for being environmentally responsible and being careful to Recycle Right.  We would encourage our residents to download the Council’s Binformation App which can help them recycle right from home by identifying which bin or box a material should be placed in.

“Over the next six months the Council will be advertising its new ‘Recycle Right’ brand across the Council area to keep the important ‘Recycle Right’ message in the minds of its residents.

“There is further progress to be made with household recycling and we look forward to working with our residents in the year ahead to ensure that all cans, tins, plastics, paper, cardboard and food is recycled in the correct way.”

The Council introduced its contamination policy to ensure that residents put the right waste in the right bin or box.  This will improve the area’s recycling rate and meet the required target of 50% household waste to be recycled by 2020.

Top tips for recycling include:

  • Recycle more: cardboard, newspapers, clean tin foil, food waste and plastics (bottles, pots, tubs and trays)
  • Do not recycle: nappies, oils, plastic film and polystyrene
