New Glass Recycling Facility in Dromara

October 16, 2018

Residents of Dromara will be able to recycle their glass at the new bottle banks located at the back of the EUROSPAR on the Rathfriland Road, Dromara.

Councillor Janet Gray MBE, Chair of the Council’s Environmental Services Committee, speaking about the new recycling facility, said: “Any colour of glass bottles and jars can be placed in these bottle banks for recycling.  The Council welcomes this new addition to its bring bank locations and would like to thank the Henderson Group for having it situated on their land.

“It is a convenient central location for local residents and we hope that it will be well used and help to improve on the Council’s glass recycling figure of approximately 1,118 tonnes from bring banks and Household Recycling Centres.

“While current glass recycling rates are encouraging, the Council believes this figure can be improved upon.  It has been estimated that every family uses on average 330 glass bottles and jars each year and glass is a readily recyclable material which should not be going to landfill.  We would ask that all bottles and jars are rinsed out before deposit in this bring bank,” Councillor Gray MBE concluded.

David Miskimmin, Area Manager from Henderson Group added: “We’re very pleased to make this recycling facility available to residents of Dromara at their local EUROSPAR supermarket and hope it makes it more convenient for people to recycle their goods.

“At the Henderson Group, we’re determined to lead the way and enable our customers to recycle unwanted items with ease. We hope to roll out similar facilities with stores in other areas in the near future and are encouraging all our customers and suppliers to make use of the bottle bins and try to reduce their levels of household waste.”
