Castlereagh Hills Golf Club Secretary Honoured at Council Reception
October 16, 2018
Mr Jimmy Gibson was recently recognised for his contribution to local sport by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.
Family, friends and golfing partners joined Jimmy, himself a former English FA football referee, at a Civic Reception, recently held at Castlereagh Hills Golf Club.
Jimmy was instrumental in the establishment of Castlereagh Hills Golf Club in 2005. He has held many voluntary positions, both in the Club and Golf societies. He was the inaugural Club Captain in 2005 and was Club President for two years from 2012. Jimmy is currently the Honorary Secretary of the Club, a position he has held since 2014.
As a mark of the high esteem that Jimmy is held by the Club and Council, The Members’ Room at Castlereagh Hills Golf Club will now be renamed ‘The Gibson Room’.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Development Committee, Alderman Paul Porter said: “We are delighted to recognise the sporting contribution that Jimmy has made to local sport, not least being a driving force, if you pardon the pun at Castlereagh Hills Golf Course.
“Clubs and societies would simply not exist without the voluntary efforts of so many, working away tirelessly behind the scenes, sometimes with little or no recognition and asking for nothing in return. Jimmy Gibson is one such man and it is only fitting that on behalf of his members, we thank him for his invaluable service to Castlereagh Hills Golf Club,” he concluded.
