New Fairtrade signs installed across Lisburn and Castlereagh

June 6, 2022

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has installed new signage on key routes into the city as part of its Fairtrade City status.

Commenting on the new signage in LCCC, Alderman Amanda Grehan, Development Committee Chair said: “I am very pleased we have been able to promote the Fairtrade City Status of Lisburn and Castlereagh with the placement of new signs.  We were awarded Fairtrade city status in 2018 and have proudly retained it.

“The commitment of our local retailers, schools and churches using and/or selling Fairtrade products has helped raise awareness of the benefits of Fairtrade produce.  Our residents also play their part through shopping local and choosing Fairtrade items.  We are all playing our part to assist farmers in the developing world.”

The Lisburn Castlereagh Fairtrade Steering Group comprises of members of the local business community, educational establishments, churches, charities and council representatives.

Placing of the signs will fulfil the aim of raising awareness in the local community of the impact of choosing Fairtrade goods.

Dr Christopher Stange, Consul General for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Secretariat, All-Party Group on Fairtrade said: “These signs are a celebration of the hard work and the council’s continued promotion and support of Fairtrade across the city. Displaying Fairtrade signs immediately lets visitors and residents know that Lisburn & Castlereagh is a Fairtrade community. I applaud the work of the local Fairtrade Steering Committee to mark this major milestone in their work on Fairtrade.”

The council would like to encourage more businesses, schools and community groups to be part of this citywide initiative.  Together let us continue to retain the Fairtrade accreditation by following us online at www.lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk/fairtrade.
