Mayor's Coca-Cola Bursary Scheme Closing Date Extended

July 19, 2016

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is pleased to announce that the closing deadline for completed applications for the Mayor’s Coca-Cola Bursary Scheme has been extended until Friday 19th August at 5.00pm.

Funded by Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland, the Mayor’s Annual Bursary Scheme is aimed at young residents of the Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council area wishing to pursue courses or projects in the areas of arts, sport and community service development.

Those interested in applying must be aged between 14 and 21 on 1st April 2016. It is expected that the opportunities being supported would not normally be available at a local level; and will improve individual performance and personal development in the applicant’s chosen field of arts or sport.

The Mayor, Councillor Brian Bloomfield MBE, has welcomed the extended closing deadline. He said: “The deadline for the Bursary Scheme has been extended to ensure that we provide the young people from within the Council area with every opportunity to submit their applications and prevent potential candidates from missing out on invaluable funding.

“The Council believe that the investment in personal development of young people is indispensable and through this Scheme will provide a supportive stepping stone to young athletes, aspiring coaches and arts performers, who strive to take their interest and skill to a whole new level.

“I would encourage everyone aged between 14 and 21 on 1st April 2016 who have an interest in the areas of arts, sport or community service development to submit an application now, and make use of this great initiative”, he concluded.

Through this scheme, the Council and Coca-Cola hope to support life-changing opportunities for the young people of the City.

Gillian Shields, Community Affairs Manager, Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland added: “As a company with a long standing heritage in Northern Ireland, we are passionate about making a real difference to the lives of those living locally.  Young people need support if they are to develop and reach their full potential, and we hope that these bursaries will go some way towards helping them get the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their chosen field. I look forward to seeing it make a positive change in the lives of those who will benefit.”

Completed application forms must be returned to the Mayor’s Secretary by Friday 19th August at 5.00pm.
