Mayor Visits Dundonald Credit Union
June 30, 2015
The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett was delighted to visit Dundonald Credit Union and celebrate its service to the Dundonald and Ballybeen communities for 20 years.
This local credit union started in a community centre in Ballybeen in 1995 with 12 members. Today is has 2,000 members and is now located in its own premises in Dundonald Village. It was delighted to recently receive the Investors in People accreditation.
The Mayor, speaking about this valuable local resource, said: “I am delighted that this long established institution provides a valuable service to the whole community and it makes a very important contribution to the social economy of the Council area in a sustainable manner.
“Its ethos of encouraging prudent borrowing for big-purchase items, emergencies or educational needs by developing a regular habit for savings is key to its success. Through such practices, its members build economic security for themselves and their families, which is particularly valuable in the current economic climate as it undergoes a slow recovery phase.”
