Mayor Martin hosts iCan reception

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council was delighted to welcome the iCan Judo Club to Lagan Valley Island following a visit to one of their sessions in Maghaberry late last year.

iCan Judo support young people who require support or adaptions to take up and progress in Judo.

Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin, commented “iCan Judo practice one to one training to meet the needs of each young people with a dedicated coaching team committed to adapting and communication in a manner suitable to the person in front of them.

“It is no surprise the approach of Head Coach Mark Spence has resulted in medal wins at both the British Championships and the British School Championships but more importantly has created a safe, fun space for young people with conditions such as autism and ADHD to enjoy and compete in a great sport.

“It was my pleasure to present Rachael Gilpin on behalf of the parents and caregivers involved with the Club a Mayoral plaque in recognition and with thanks for the incredible work everyone involved with iCan do in breaking down hidden barriers for young people.”
