Mayor Martin congratulates local students on Results Day – “You all have so much to be proud of”
August 10, 2021
The Mayor, Alderman Stephen Martin would like to congratulate all local pupils on their GCSE/AS/A Level results.
Speaking about results day, the Mayor said: “Once again results day is a little different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. What you all have went through to reach this point and how you have together achieved overcoming the challenges of online working and the uncertainty around exam arrangements is beyond compare. Each and every one of you should take real pride in your achievements.
“Life is a journey – sometimes you’ll achieve your goals, other times it won’t just work out the way you might have thought. All that means is you might decide yourself to go a different way or try again. Your teachers, family and friends will be with you to help, guide and celebrate all that makes you who you are.
“Whether you decide to stay on in school, go to university, go to our local SERC College or other higher education providers, do an Open University degree or start an apprenticeship there are lots of opportunities available to you. Results Day can feel like a bit of a rollercoaster but it marks the start of the next stage of your journey, irrespective of the grades you obtained, and I wish you every success for the future.
“Like most things in life, it takes a village so I would also thank all our teachers for the guidance and support they have provided to their pupils over the course of their schooling as well as parents and carers for all they continue to do to mould the next generation of young adults.
“Well done everyone – this is your time. Enjoy”
