Mayor hosts breakfast as part of 'Relentless' Prayer Initiative

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett was delighted to host a recent prayer breakfast at Lagan Valley Island, the Council’s Headquarters as part of the ‘Relentless’ prayer initiative.

This event was attended by representatives of the churches involved in the 40 day and 40 night initiative to pray for the City of Lisburn and its people.  The Chief Executive, Dr Theresa Donaldson, elected members and MLAs, Paul Givan and Jonathan Craig were also in attendance.

At the prayer breakfast each church prayed for Councillors, the Chief Executive and council officers to ensure the Lisburn area continues to prosper and that all communities are supported through the delivery of council services.

The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett, welcoming everyone to the Prayer Breakfast, said: “I am privileged to be part of this innovative prayer initiative that is being run in line with Lent.    The support across the church denominations is fantastic; and through the use of prayer a number of subjects are being addressed including business, education, health, emergency services and our local communities.

The churches prayed for guidance to the Council to grow a sustainable local economy, implement a Community Plan to bring together statutory, private and public agencies for the betterment of all and provide a pleasant environment for families to grow up in and our elderly to enjoy their retirement,” concluded Councillor Beckett.

The churches involved in Relentless are: Christ Church, Harmony Hill Presbyterian, First Lisburn Presbyterian, Lisburn Cathedral, Legacurry Presbyterian, St Patrick’s, St Paul’s, Lagan Valley Vineyard, Trinity Methodist, Seymour Street Methodist, Lisburn Christian Fellowship, Derryvolgie Parish and Railway Street Presbyterian. 

The Mayor concluded, “This initiative gives the community the opportunity to take time out and reflect before its conclusion on Easter Sunday”.
