Mayor celebrates 55th Anniversary of Lisburn Historical Society
April 13, 2022
Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Alderman Stephen Martin was proud to host the 55th Anniversary dinner of Lisburn Historical Society at Lagan Valley Island on Monday 11th April 2022.
Lisburn Historical Society was formed in 1967 for charitable purposes with a particular focus on promoting the advancement of education by the study of local history in the Lisburn area.
Commenting on the importance of this local group, the Mayor said: “For more than half a century, Lisburn Historical Society members, past and present, have worked to preserve our heritage and enhance our understanding of what has come before. They were instrumental in the establishment of Lisburn Museum and continue to work in close partnership with the Museum team. Of great local cultural significance the society gifted their extensive artefact catalogue of more than 1,000 individual items to the Irish Linen Museum in 2001 for which we owe them a great deal of gratitude.
“Our celebration event was the first time that many society members had been able to share in each other’s company since the start of the pandemic so it was only fitting that we held a special evening, given their central role in sustaining our heritage for generations to come.”
