Local people go the extra mile for Sport Relief

Over 70 local people turned out in force on Sunday 20th March at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Wallace Park, Lisburn.

 

The day was a massive success with friends and families joining together to go the extra mile for Sport Relief 2016. The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett who ran the race himself said, “I was delighted to join the people of Lisburn & Castlereagh for the Sports Relief Mile, and help raise funds for so many worthwhile causes.

 

“It is great to see the event take place right on our doorstep, and the Council is very proud knowing that the money raised over the weekend will help people living unimaginably tough lives right here in Northern Ireland and across the rest of the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries. I would like to say a huge thank you to each and every person who has donated money or given their time to participate in the Sport Relief Mile.”

 

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee added, “The Sport Relief Mile is a superb initiative which encourages groups of people to come together to get active regardless of their level of fitness and age.

 

“This year’s event attracted over 70 participants, which included mothers pushing prams, dog walkers and more experienced runners, which was a fantastic turnout. I would like to thank everyone who entered and I hope the event raises much need funds for the many worthwhile causes supported by Sport Relief.”

 

The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Thomas Beckett donned his trainers to join the people of Lisburn & Castlereagh on the Sports Relief Mile, which took place on Sunday 20th March at Wallace Park, Lisburn.
