Council doubles the size of its 2023 apprentice programme
June 19, 2023
In partnership with SERC, Belfast Met and CAFRE, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council (LCCC) is offering 13 different Level 2 and Level 3 paid apprenticeships across the organisation, through its Career Pathways Programme - so that successful applicants can ‘earn while they learn’ and still complete their qualifications.
The Council-run apprenticeships are at least 18 months in length and each varies in challenge and structure, depending on the occupation involved.
There are 13 apprenticeships available across the following Council services: Administration; HR and OD; Sports Turf & Green Keeping; Horticulture; Waste Management and Operations - Garage (Mechanic); Parks & Amenities; Facilities Management; City Centre Events; Sports Services; Marketing; Tourism; and Event Management.
Alderman Owen Gawith, Chair of the Council’s Corporate Services Committee said: “We’ve been really impressed with the calibre of our apprentices since we launched the scheme in 2021. Last year we took on six people – but this year we are doubling that number and recruiting for 13 enthusiastic individuals.
“Our aim is to open up new routes into jobs within the Council - and the successful Career Pathways Programme offers great development opportunities across a range of departments – allowing individuals to combine training with learning and work experience. The Council will, where possible, provide permanent role opportunities at the end of the apprenticeship.
Marketing Apprentice Ben Bradford said: “My time with the council has been a fantastic experience, working with a great team and being given the opportunity to work on exciting projects.
“Pursuing this apprenticeship has been one of the best decisions I have made and I would strongly recommend anybody thinking of doing it to go for it!”
