Lisburn Museum’s ‘Covid-19 and Me’ project wins Audience Delight Award
May 25, 2021
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is delighted to announce that its Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum has been awarded Thrive’s 2021, ‘Audience Delight Award’ for its ‘Covid-19 and Me’ project.
Launched in late March 2020, the contemporary collecting project encouraged residents of the area to share their experience of living through the coronavirus pandemic. The project collected stories, experiences, photographs, objects and mementos of ‘lockdown’, producing an archive of valuable information for generations to come.
Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Leisure & Community Development Committee Chairman, said: “I am delighted many residents across the council area got involved with this project. One hundred years from now, this archive will be a fantastic resource for those wanting to know what happened, how we felt, and how we came together during the pandemic. Lockdown was challenging, and I know that many participants found the process of getting involved and recording their thoughts and feelings therapeutic.”
The museum’s ‘Covid-19 and Me’ project was featured by local and national media, including the BBC and the Museums Association, and is the subject of a number of academic studies for its approach to collecting and community engagement during the pandemic.
It is not too late to add your story to the archive, visit https://www.lisburnmuseum.com/covid-19-and-me/ for more information.
