Mayor Trimble dedicates plaque at the 2021 Garden of Reflection service

May 24, 2021

Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council holds an annual Garden of Reflection service each year to remember lost loved ones including babies born asleep, babies lost through miscarriage, neonatal losses or young people under the age of 18.

This year, the service was streamed online due to the current COVID-19 restrictions on outside gatherings. The service was led by The Mayor, Councillor Nicholas Trimble and The Very Reverend Sam Wright of Lisburn Cathedral followed by a minute’s silence.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Trimble said: “Our common purpose here today is to celebrate and remember those cherished children who were sadly taken too soon. We take this moment to remember them with love.

“Our Garden of Reflection was designed to support local families who have been affected by the loss of a child and to provide a place to go where they can quietly reflect and remember them.

“The names engraved on the memorial plaque will form a lasting tribute alongside the names already here. I hope that some comfort can be taken from this tribute.

“I would like to thank everyone who submitted names to the council for inclusion on the memorial plaque for 2021. Please remember that the garden is open every day so feel free to visit it at any time. It is your space to reflect and remember.”
