Lisburn Castlereagh groups benefit from over £143,000 grant support

February 17, 2022

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has provided £143,087 in funding to help local community and voluntary groups recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

45 grants were recently awarded to successful applicants under the ‘COVID-19 Recovery Fund’ funded by the Department for Communities.

Leisure & Community Development Chair, Councillor Sharon Skillen, welcoming this news said: “Communities are the cornerstones of the Lisburn Castlereagh area and it is important we recognise their efforts and work together to help recovery from the challenges of COVID-19. The grants will help local groups adapt to the needs of their service users and futureproof their facilities and services. These groups had the health and wellbeing of their community and volunteers at the forefront of their minds when seeking financial support.

“We were delighted with the interest in this grant scheme. It shows the ongoing high level of community spirit in Lisburn Castlereagh. I look forward to seeing the support these projects provide for everyone at the heart of our communities. On behalf of the council I would like to thank all those who applied. The council will continue to offer its support to all groups and volunteers as we recognise the valuable work they do.”

Councillor Thomas Beckett, Vice-Chair of the Leisure & Community Development Committee added: “This financial support will help deliver a variety of projects which will directly benefit our local communities. From adapting community spaces to running community programmes and activities or providing equipment or training to support volunteers, all meaningful projects.

“In recent times we have seen how financial support has made a real difference in local communities.  I would like to thank all the voluntary and community groups for the excellent work they are doing. Together we can build strong, healthy and versatile communities to be enjoyed by all in the future.”
