Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has provided £143,087 in funding to help local community and voluntary groups recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
45 grants were recently awarded to successful applicants under the ‘COVID-19 Recovery Fund’ funded by the Department for Communities.
Leisure & Community Development Chair, Councillor Sharon Skillen, welcoming this news said: “Communities are the cornerstones of the Lisburn Castlereagh area and it is important we recognise their efforts and work together to help recovery from the challenges of COVID-19. The grants will help local groups adapt to the needs of their service users and futureproof their facilities and services. These groups had the health and wellbeing of their community and volunteers at the forefront of their minds when seeking financial support.
“We were delighted with the interest in this grant scheme. It shows the ongoing high level of community spirit in Lisburn Castlereagh. I look forward to seeing the support these projects provide for everyone at the heart of our communities. On behalf of the council I would like to thank all those who applied. The council will continue to offer its support to all groups and volunteers as we recognise the valuable work they do.”
Councillor Thomas Beckett, Vice-Chair of the Leisure & Community Development Committee added: “This financial support will help deliver a variety of projects which will directly benefit our local communities.
