Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Peace IV Action Plan

April 5, 2016

The PEACE IV programme is an EU supported programme aimed at reinforcing progress towards a peaceful and stable society in NI and the Border region. The programme will provide support to projects that contribute to greater levels of peace and reconciliation. There will be a strong emphasis on promoting cross-community and cross border relations and understanding to create a more cohesive society.

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has been provided with an opportunity to develop a new PEACE IV Action Plan. It will build upon the previous experiences of PEACE III by tackling the remaining challenges that exist in building positive relationships and developing shared spaces across the Council area.

Local authority plans will focus on 3 priority themes:

• Children and Young People
• Shared Spaces & Services
• Building Positive Relations

Council has been notified of an indicative allocation of €2.99m for the period 2014-2020 across these themes.

PEACE IV FOCUS GROUPS

For the plan to be as effective as possible, it is important that it is guided by local people who understand the challenges and needs of local people. The Council will engage with a wide range of stakeholders in the development of the action plan (statutory, private sector, trade unions, elected members and the voluntary and community sector) which aims to create effective partnership working under PEACE IV. Council will host a series of Focus Groups which will target a range of interested groups such as faith-based, culture, young people, ethnic minorities and more.
