Council launches Community Celebration Grants for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's 90th Birthday

April 5, 2016

The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett and Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Leisure and Community Development Committee at Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, have launched specific Celebration Grants, for local community groups, to mark the occasion of the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Celebration Grants will have a maximum value of £500 and will be provided for ‘community parties’ which are required to take place on a date between Friday 3rd June and Saturday 18 June 2016.  Her Majesty’s Birthday will be officially celebrated on the 11th June.

The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Beckett said: “The Council will be marking the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and has therefore decided to make Celebration Grants available for local community groups.  Her Majesty has always given sterling service in her role as Monarch, and, as the head of the Royal Family, is revered for her work and her dedication.

“As a mark of respect, the Council wishes to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, and I would encourage our local community groups to get involved and apply for grant-aid,” he said.

Alderman Paul Porter said: “As the Chairman of the Leisure and Community Development Committee, I was very much in favour of the Council making provision for local groups in the area being given the opportunity to make plans for the Queen’s 90th birthday.  Grant information is online and the grants will be administered by the Leisure Services Department.

“The closing date is Thursday 28th April, so hopefully that gives groups time to apply for funding,” he said.

Applications must be made from bonafide Community Groups governed by a constitution or other appropriate governing documentation with office bearers and a committee elected at a minuted AGM with audited or independently examined accounts.  Applications should have the signatories of two office bearers who will be responsible for verifying grant claims.
