Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council Committed to Play Park Programme

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has outlined its continued commitment to moving forward with its play parks programme. Issues that arose during the tender process and the recent impact of the Covid-19 pandemic meant that the original plan was delayed.

Leisure and Community Development Committee Chair Alderman Michael Henderson MBE said;

“We fully recognise the importance of providing facilities for children where they can learn, play and exercise safely within their local communities. The benefits of play parks go far beyond being a fun place to play. They stimulate creativity, help children develop social, emotional and physical skills and provide opportunities to make friends and build new relationships.

I am delighted that a new tender process will now commence which will allow us to appoint contractors to refurbish two of our play parks and to build three new ones for our young people to enjoy.

As a council, we remain committed to this programme of work, despite some delays. I look forward to hearing how this work is progressing in the year ahead and to welcoming young people into these new facilities.”
