LeisurePlex Hosts Irish National Swimming Championships

December 14, 2016

Over 300 swimmers competed in the prestigious Irish National Short Course (25m) Swimming Championships last weekend at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex in Lisburn.

The three day event was supported by Swim Ulster and Swim Ireland and attracted teams from across Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and even one as far away as Dubai.

Presenting the medals at the event, the Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Councillor Brian Bloomfield said, “The Council is honoured to welcome clubs from Swim Ulster and Swim Ireland to Lisburn & Castlereagh.  It is a privilege to host a national competition and meet many of the swimmers and their supporters who have travelled a great distance to take part in the competition.  I hope the clubs enjoy their time with us and I look forward to welcoming many of them back to the City in the future.”

Councillor Tim Morrow, Chairman of the Leisure & Community Development Committee added, “Lagan Valley LeisurePlex has a proud history of hosting prestigious sporting events and we are delighted to continue this success by hosting the Irish National Swimming Championships.  It has been fantastic to watch swimmers compete at the highest level and I hope their success is a true inspiration to others to get involved in the sport.”
