LCCC reminds dog owners to pick up after their dog

December 9, 2021

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is appealing to dog owners to be responsible by picking up after their dogs.

Dog walkers should remember to always carry poop scoop bags when out with their dogs. To support dog owners, a number of dispensers are in place in LCCC parks to provide bags for those who forget. Please consider others and only take what you need.

You can find these dispensers in Moira Demesne, Wallace Park, Moat Park, Barbour Playing Fields, Hillsborough Park, Lough Moss Leisure Centre and Billy Neill MBE Country Park.

Vice Chair of Environmental Services, Councillor Caleb McCready said: “We are happy to be able to help dog walkers access a bag quickly and easily to pick up after their pet so there is no excuse.

“We would encourage all dog walkers not to leave home without poop scoops and to use the dispensers if needed when visiting our facilities for dog walks. Dog waste bags are also available at Lagan Valley Island reception free of charge.

“You can dispose of the dog bag waste in any park litter bin or other general waste bins.

“The Council has recently purchased a third FIDO machine which collects dog fouling from paths so together as a community, we can help keep our parks, open spaces and pavements clean and tidy for everyone to enjoy.”

Dog fouling is both anti-social and a health hazard. We would like your help to stop this type of irresponsible behaviour by reporting dog fouling to Environmental Health.

To report incidents of dog fouling call 028 9244 7394. Provide us with the time and location of the fouling, if possible give us the name and address of the dog owner or a description of the offender. Your name and address will be treated as strictly confidential.

The Council continues to operate its zero-tolerance policy towards offenders. Those who fail to ‘scoop the poop’ will receive a fixed penalty of £80 or face prosecution.
