Launch of 2022 Lisburn & Castlereagh Pipe Band & Highland Dance Festival
August 22, 2022
The stunning setting of Moira Demesne will host the Lisburn and Castlereagh Pipe Band & Highland Dance Festival 2022 on Saturday 3rd September from 10.00am.
It is managed by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association Northern Ireland Branch (RSPBANI), together with Pipe Band College Northern Ireland (PBCNI) and the Northern Ireland Highland Dance Association in conjunction (NIHDA) with the Ulster Scots Agency (USA).
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is proud to be supporting this musical event that will offer activities for all the family. It is the final event of the local branch’s season calendar and will focus more on a fun day with music, culture and learning.
Alderman Allan Ewart MBE, Development Committee Chairman, commented: “It will be great to have Moira Demesne once again filled with the glorious sounds of pipes and drums. Over the years, the council has strengthened its relationship with the RSPBANI; and I would like to thank all those in the Northern Ireland Branch for their work to secure this event in Moira.
“The popular Moira Demesne offers the RSPBANI the flexibility to provide a fun day for everyone. I would like to wish all the solo drummers every success in the inaugural competition. This superb family day out is not to be missed and I’d encourage all music fans from across Lisburn and Castlereagh to head down to Moira Demesne to enjoy the festivities. And be sure to visit the great selection of shops and eateries in Moira village itself.”
The 2022 festival will see the introduction of Scottish Country Dancing as well as Pipe Band College Northern Ireland workshops. The branch and its partners are very much looking forward to rounding off a successful 2022 season.
The day will also incorporate the RSPBA United Kingdom Adult Solo Drumming Championship hosted by the RSBPANI. This is the inaugural event as part of the RSPBA's new solo competition calendar.
The event is kindly supported by Ulster Scots Agency and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council. It promises to be a real spectacle of the local ulster-scots and pipe band calendars.
President and Life Ambassador of RSPBANI, Mr Winston Pinkerton said; "I am looking forward with excitement to this festival which will round off our 2022 season. This event will showcase our wonderful bands, drum majors and dancers who have made this summer's championships a treat for everyone. I am extremely pleased with the inclusion of the our Pipe Band College who will be delivering some wonderful workshops which will give everyone a taste of the great wealth of knowledge and the demonstrate the work of our college tutors who look forward to a new term of teaching our next generation of pipers, drummers and drum majors starting again this Autumn. I know everyone will enjoy this great day at Moira before we move back into the practice season in preparation for 2023."
