Lagan Park Multi Use Games Area opens in Dromara
September 16, 2016
Dromara’s MUGA re-opened today, following resurfacing work which has now been completed. The Council welcomed local primary school children from Dromara Primary School to its re-opening. Needless to say, the MUGA was immediately put to good use.
The Chairman of the Council’s Leisure and Community Services Committee, Councillor Tim Morrow, officially opened the facility and the Mayor, Councillor Brian Bloomfield MBE welcomed Dromara Community Association, the school and guests. Elected Members were also present.
The MUGA first opened 10 years ago in partnership with Dromara Community Association, Dromara Primary School and the Council. It is a popular leisure facility and is well-used by a variety of sporting clubs, groups and children for sports and leisure activities.
Councillor Tim Morrow said: “I’m delighted to see the pitch’s resurfacing work completed and ready for use. The previous surface had simply been worn away over the years and required to be replaced. With the work now completed it will be good to see people of all ages, all backgrounds and all abilities using the MUGA again.
“A shared space like this is more than a place to play football, basketball or whatever the sporting choice is. It’s a place where people come together, keep fit, form friendships and it’s a great starting place to learn about teamwork, sharing and the rules of a sport for our younger users.
“I would like to express my appreciation for everyone who was involved in this work and look forward to many more years of seeing the MUGA well used in the local community,” he concluded.
