Iconic Irish Linen Centre & Lisburn Museum Brings History to Everyone

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum is now offering both personal and online visitor experiences as it continues to innovate and adapt to the challenges of the Covid 19 pandemic.

The doors of the iconic Museum will reopen tomorrow, Thursday 20th August for visitors. At the same time a brand new online exhibition will be launched, adding to the virtual museum offering.

Alderman Michael Henderson MBE, Leisure & Community Development Committee Chairman, said:

“I am delighted to welcome visitors back to this historic facility in the heart of Lisburn city centre providing access to treasured artefacts within our renowned exhibitions. This is phase one of our reopening plan to ensure that the exhibitions can be enjoyed in a safe environment.

I applaud the staff of the museum for their creativity in continuing to bring history beyond the walls while the museum was closed. ‘The Swanzy Riots, 1920’ exhibition is a superb addition to our virtual museum and is a must see for everyone. 

“100 years on, it covers one of the most difficult times in Lisburn’s history. It is important we share local stories to educate younger generations about these important periods in our history.

We have achieved the ‘We’re Good to Go’ industry standard from Tourism NI which should give you confidence that all necessary measures are in place to protect you.
