Grant funding available to aid business recovery in Lisburn Castlereagh area

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council has launched a £279,000 ‘Small Business Grant Programme’ to support local businesses as they work to recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Applications will be open from 19th August until 9th September 2020 and will be awarded on a first come first served basis in line with the eligibility criteria.

This is part of the Capital Covid-19 Recovery Revitalisation Scheme funded by the Department for Communities (DfC) and the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA). 

The funding will help businesses with their economic recovery and aims to provide a safe town and village environment. The project will also assist businesses in meeting operational challenges for example, hospitality and licensed businesses can get support to create outdoor customer spaces whilst independent businesses and retailers might access support in relation to additional safety measures.

Alderman Jim Dillon MBE, Development Committee Chairman, welcomed the funding and highlighted some of the benefits:

“Different levels of grant assistance are available across business sectors ranging from £500 to £2,000 per organisation.  Working in partnership, the council, DfC and DAERA are committed to supporting businesses as they recover from the impact of the pandemic. The funding might be used to purchase necessary equipment or put in place measures to help businesses create new working environments that ensure safety for everyone.

“I welcome this funding and encourage local businesses to apply. I look forward to seeing it put to good use in our local area. Our Economic Development team will manage the programme and allocate funds, which will help provide a safe and enjoyable experience for shoppers and visitors. I would encourage residents to continue to shop local as much as possible and provide much needed support to businesses in the heart of our communities.”
