Hillsborough Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) in collaboration with Lisburn & Castlereagh Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) and PSNI organised a personal safety event to provide information on both Crime Prevention and Road Safety.

The event was held at the Beechlawn School, Dromore Road, Hillsborough on the evening of Tuesday 22 September 2015 with keynote speakers covering both crime prevention, road safety and tracker.  In addition other statutory and non-statutory organisations present provided information on Neighbourhood Watch Schemes, Farm Watch, Trading Standards, Consumer Advice, Health and Well Being, Health and Safety, Drugs and Alcohol, Fire Safety, Home Safety, and Rural Funding.  Hillsborough CPLC also provided free road and personal safety items at the event.

Lisburn & Castlereagh PCSP Chairman, Councillor Scott Carson commented, “This was an excellent opportunity for the local community to attend an event that had all the relevant organisations present to provide professional advice to keep everyone safe on both our roads and within our local communities.  I am delighted that families, community groups, church organisations and other organisations attended and availed of the equipment, information and advice on offer.”

Hillsborough CPLC Chairperson, Mrs Nessa O`Callaghan commented, “During the last twelve months there have been many tragic accidents on our roads and burglaries in local and rural areas.  The support of those local people that came along and learnt how to be safer on the roads, in their homes and gained awareness of the very real dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.  We need to work in unison with the PSNI to help make our communities safer places.”

District Commander Superintendent Sean Wright commented: “Everyone can take steps to prevent crime and make our roads safer.  This conference provided everyone with the best information on how to prevent burglary and theft at home and how to better prepare yourself for driving or riding on the roads safely.  I was pleased with the attendance at this conference, from all age groups, to help the PSNI keep people safe.”
